Jane Brock: Music

Leaving London

(Jane Brock)
Last night to London I went
Looking for my friend
One I'd known so, so long
But I'd lost track of him
And I'd lost the high road to his heart
And what we used to be
As my train rolled on
I wondered long
If he would still want me

I phoned him from the railway station
Where our path would start
Arranged our destination
Through the back streets of my heart

When I'm leaving London on a train,
Leaving England on a plane
I hope I'll leave with all I came to find
When I'm leaving London behind.

Today in London we break down our lonely walls,
Our souls hear lovely music the buskers play in Underground halls
There's rain outside the Cathedral, but it is so beautiful inside
We brave the fortress prison
Discovering the jewels that it hides

But can we find our long-lost treasure
By the time the morning comes?
Mine the magic in the darkness
By my last night in London?

When I'm leaving London on a train,
Leaving England on a plane
I hope I'll leave with all I came to find
When I'm leaving London behind.

The promise of tea in the morning
The Circle Line breaks down
Sunshine without warning
Raindrops fall on the ground.

Last night in London
I rediscovered my best friend
I'll never lose him again.

Now I'm leaving London on a train
I found the one I love again
Being here made me believe that everything I could not see was meant to be
And now he's leaving London...
With me.
